Bluesky Posts Updated Policies and Community Guidelines for Public Comment

Bluesky has posted updated Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Copyright Policy, as well as draft Community Guidelines. According to a blog post, the changes are needed "to reflect new legal requirements and give users more control in case of disagreements." (Author, activist, and "enshittification" coiner Cory Doctorow has some thoughts on the latter.)

Highlights include a clearer structure for guidelines, more detail on user safety and moderation, a new appeals process, and stronger privacy and copyright protections.

Bluesky is accepting public input on the draft Community Guidelines (but not the other updates) until August 28, with the new rules taking effect on October 15.

Bluesky Names New Head of Product

On Friday, Alex Benzer announced in a thread on Bluesky that he has been named Head of Product at the company. Community members flooded the comments with congratulations, but also many (many) feature requests. Congrats, Alex!
